The more things stay the same, the more they stay the same

In 1994, the New York Times noted that left-wing academics were taking to the pages of – gasp! – the Village Voice and other nontraditional outlets to have their voices heard and join the public conversation. How different is this debate from today’s hand-wringing about scholars expressing their views on blogs, Twitter, and the like?
